Losing a loved one unexpectedly is not easy on any family. When they learn that the death occurred because the person was hit by a vehicle and that the driver left the scene, the situation only becomes more harrowing. Often, a fatal hit-and-run accident can leave surviving loved ones looking to seek justice.

The family of one man in Colorado may be looking into their legal options after a recent fatal event. According to reports, the man was walking on a roadway when he was hit by a vehicle traveling south. The driver of the vehicle reportedly did not remain at the scene, but after police offered a description of the vehicle believed to have been involved, a person reported seeing the vehicle later.

Authorities used the tip to locate the vehicle and then the vehicle’s owner. Because the damage to the vehicle appeared consistent with what was expected in the hit-and-run incident, authorities took the 24-year-old vehicle owner into custody. At the time of the report, he was facing charges of vehicular homicide, hit and run, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

This fatal hit-and-run accident has undoubtedly left the man’s family facing many hardships. In addition to having to accept the sudden loss, they may also face financial difficulties relating to final medical bills for the deceased, funeral expenses, lost income and more. As a result, it may be useful for them to gain information on filing a wrongful death claim in Colorado to determine whether they may be able to seek compensation from the driver considered at fault.
