Motorcyclist Dies in Crash Involving SUV

Now that the weather is getting warmer, many in Colorado who enjoy riding motorcycles are hitting the road. Although a practical, fun and economical way to get around, motorcycles offer little to no protection in a crash, especially one involving a larger passenger vehicle. Their small size also makes motorcycles harder for other drivers to see sometimes, and the result can be serious accidents that cause catastrophic injuries or worse to the motorcycle driver and any passengers on the bike. One man recently lost his life in an accident involving an SUV.

Accident details

The accident occurred close to 7 a.m. during the morning of May 10. A man was riding his Honda motorcycle southbound on College Avenue in Fort Collins when an SUV crossed in front of his path. The SUV was attempting to make a left turn off of College Avenue when the crash occurred.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local medical center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 44-year-old man, was not hurt in the accident. The coroner plans to release the identity of the deceased following notification of next-of-kin.

Legal recourse

Should authorities determine the SUV driver was distracted or otherwise acting negligently behind the wheel, surviving family members of the deceased motorcyclist can use that as evidence against him as they pursue wrongful death claims against the SUV driver along with anyone else who has ownership interest in his vehicle. Affected parties can work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in Colorado to gain a full understanding of their rights and options. A lawyer will work diligently to help his or her client obtain the maximum amount of compensation permitted under the law.
