Fatal accident blamed on reckless driving

On Behalf of | Dec 9, 2021 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Most drivers act responsibly behind the wheel in order to arrive at their destinations safely. However, others choose to speed and drive recklessly, which puts all motorists and their passengers at risk. If a driver causes an accident due to careless or reckless behavior, he or she can face legal challenges from those adversely affected.

Even if the at-fault driver dies in the accident he or she caused, his or her estate can face civil suits from those who suffered serious injuries or the loss of a loved one in a crash. Tragically, a fatal accident occurred in Park County, Colorado, recently, and reports indicate the driver was driving recklessly, leading to the crash. The victims of a crash may be considering their legal options against the estate of the driver deemed responsible for the accident.

Accident details

Although the report did not offer a lot of detail regarding the accident, it did state the crash happened on US 285 near County Road. The accident occurred at the 225-mile marker and caused officials to close the road for several hours. Officials also believe the driver who caused the accident was driving recklessly.

The driver caused a head-on accident with another vehicle heading in the opposite direction. Authorities confirmed two occupants in the alleged at-fault vehicle died at the scene, presumably including the driver. Two other occupants of the vehicle hit were taken to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Their conditions were not reported.

Legal recourse

Along with dealing with their tragic loss, the surviving family of the deceased victim who had been riding in the alleged at-fault vehicle have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver’s estate and anyone else who has ownership in the vehicle. Likewise, the occupants of the other vehicle who were injured in the crash may elect to pursue a personal injury claim against the alleged at-fault driver’s estate in pursuit of compensation. In both cases, the victims will want to work with an experienced personal injury attorney to increase their chances for a successful outcome.
