Northglenn settles officer-involved shooting lawsuit for $8.75 million

Verdict Seen As Split Victory

by Tony Flesor

Although his client was held at fault, Clifford Beem still sees success in a recent Douglas County verdict. Stephen Barber was the defendant in a case in which his neighbor, Leonard Chanda, sought damages for injuries Barber inflicted.

In September 2011, Barber shot Chanda five times. Chanda was awarded a hefty verdict, but Barber also received an offset for a counterclaim. Because of the emotional distress Chanda caused Barber before the shooting, there were two victims in this case, said Beem, who handled the case with his daughter, Danielle Beem.

Denver Attorney Wins Rare Sum In Arapahoe County

By David Forster

When the verdict came in, Clifford Beem was floored. This was Arapahoe County, after all, typically not friendly territory for plaintiffs bringing personal injury claims.

Not only did the attorney win, but the jury awarded his client more than he asked for in his closing arguments, a total of $1.99 million for the injuries she suffered in a car crash.
